Invention Background

Nick Hanigan, inventor of DIAXI learned to play chess, from his father, when at sea on a pearling boat at the age of 7.  Years later as an adult, having followed his father and many of his other family's footsteps into pearling, Nick decided to make a premium chessboard, utilising the knowledge he had gained about pearlshell and Australia's mother of pearl.

Most chess boards close with the checkers on the outside, leaving the playing surface exposed.  The DIAXI could close with the checkers on the inside, protecting the valuable playing surface.  This combined with a few other discoveries were substantial enough to warrant a patent application to be lodged, application date 30 June 2006 for the hinge.

Five years later in an American Patent office on the 22 June 2011 the US patent was approved for DIAXI.  Now in December 2011 a fine chessboard is presented as the first manufactured product using diaxi.
